How long does it take to learn Krav Maga?

This is a question we got asked a lot by potential students, and the answer is … well, it depends. When you studied for school, college or university you had different subjects you were good at, and you learnt things differently and within their own timescale. Krav Maga is no different to this, you will each adapt and learn differently to what we teach. The way in which Combat Krav Maga International teaches  its instructors is to always train muscular memory first and and then cognition, not the other way around. It is always important to understand why you do what you do, but it is muscle memory and gross motor skills that save you in a real situation, cognition is what helps you after the fight is over to understand what happened. Learning happens by doing and imitating, this is how we were brought up and it is in our genes.  Krav Maga encompasses techniques from a lot of fighting systems and the student must know stand up fighting, ground fighting, defences from multiple attackers and from attackers armed with stick, knife, pistol, etc. Therefore there is quite a lot of material to learn, but the beauty of our system is that most of the techniques you learn in the beginning end up being used for a lot of the more advanced scenarios and techniques.
